Does Student Engagement Matter? Teaching Practices for Encouraging Student Engagement

In 2015-2016, the Mathematics Department and the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching conducted a large-scale study of the impact of class-size reduction in Math 115 and 116. As part of this study, nearly 250 classes were observed. In this presentation I will discuss the relationship between observed student engagement and learning outcomes in Math 115, report on observed teaching practices that encouraged student engagement, and provide some examples of how instructors implemented these practices. Speaker(s): Elaine Lande (University of Michigan)
