SMTD assistant professor Matthew Thompson, recipient of a 2017-18 CJS Faculty Research Grant to record a disc of classical Japanese oboe/piano duos, will present a live concert of these works with oboist and recent alumnus Dr. Alex Hayashi. The music is in a wide variety of styles and is also notable for containing a number of pieces composed by women, whose work is underrepresented throughout classical music. The Program will include music by Kawanaka, Hayashi, Yamashita, Konishi, Yoshida, Nishimura, and Ohmasa.
