The University Symphony Orchestra, conducted by its music director Kenneth Kiesler, celebrates the opening of the 2017-18 season with the Academic Festival Overture by Brahms, who called it “a very boisterous potpourri of student drinking songs;” Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto, performed by Stuart Carlson, winner of the 2017 SMTD Concerto Competition; and the powerful and triumphant Fifth Symphony by Beethoven.
