Guest Master Class: Nico de Villiers, piano

“The Songs of Richard Hageman (1881-1966)”

Throughout 2017 the Richard Hageman Society is celebrating the centenary of Hageman’s most beloved song, “Do Not Go, My Love,” with a series of international events that include recitals, lectures, conference presentations, and interviews with prominent performers. The SMTD Departments of Voice and Collaborative Piano will host a study day focusing on the various aspects of Richard Hageman’s artistic legacy. South African pianist and SMTD alumnus Nico de Villiers (MM ’07)—Richard Hageman Scholar, founding director of the Richard Hageman Society—will lead a masterclass with U-M Voice students on the song repertoire of this neo-romantic composer.

This event was made possible through the collaboration of the Richard Hageman Society, SMTD, the International Center of American Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Hampsong Foundation.
