The University Symphony Orchestra and University Philharmonia Orchestra present Three Russian Symphonies. The USO begins the concert with the Haydn-like humor of Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony, and continues with Shostakovich's poignant portrayal of his suffering under Stalin's regime, the autobiographical Chamber Symphony, originally the 8th String Quartet. The USO and UPO combine forces to create one large orchestra to perform the brooding, songful, and ultimately triumphant Fifth Symphony by Tchaikovsky.
PROGRAM: Prokofiev- Classical Symphony; Shostakovich- Chamber Symphony; Tchaikovsky- Symphony No. 5
