Richard Wilder
Dick Wilder joins us to discuss the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Open Access Policy. He'll share background on the development of the policy (for which he led the development) and answer questions about the Gates Foundation’s approach to Open Access, including the implementation of its OA policy and the Gates Foundation’s Chronos publishing platform. In addition to the Gates Foundation’s current efforts, Wilder will highlight next steps for the foundation and its OA-related work. His talk will be followed by audience discussion and a reception with light refreshments.

Wilder is Associate General Counsel in the Global Health Program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, responsible for providing legal support in a range of projects for the development and delivery of drugs, vaccines and diagnostics in the developing world. He is also an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown, and was previously Associate General Counsel for Intellectual Property Policy at Microsoft Corporation, as well as a former Director of the Global Intellectual Property Issues Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations in Geneva. He has advised the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, the World Health Organization, the Medicines for Malaria Venture, the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
