“Tell me everything: music and conversation with Julia Wolfe”

Contemporary Directions Ensemble Contemporary Directions Ensemble
Contemporary Directions Ensemble
The Contemporary Directions Ensemble in collaboration with the Percussion Ensemble and the University Musical Society will present works by Julia Wolfe, a 2016 MacArthur Fellow and winner of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize in music. A violin quintet, a saxophone quartet, a drumset quartet, and a work for big mixed ensemble will offer great examples of how Wolfe’s style draws inspiration from folk, classical, and rock genres, bringing a modern sensibility to each while simultaneously tearing down the walls between them. Roshanne Etezady, CDE artistic advisor, composer, and member of the SMTD composition department will lead a conversation with Julia Wolfe to learn about her music and how she sees and lives her compositional process.
