This unique performance signifies the ongoing collaboration between SMTD’s opera and early music programs. Having spent a semester exploring historically inspired performance practice, a cast of 10 singers and a full orchestra will present Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s rarely performed two-act chamber opera, La descente d'Orphée aux enfers. This telling of the famous myth of Orpheus’ descent to the underworld to save his wife Eurydice will be accompanied in the first half by Agostino Steffani cantatas.
