Department of Performing Arts Technology Seminar: Lyn Goeringer

Lyn Goeringer Lyn Goeringer
Lyn Goeringer is a sound artist and performer who makes her own instruments and multimedia pieces that focus on the unusual and everyday within sound, video, and electronics. She currently teaches composition at Michigan State University at the College of Music and Film Studies. In this talk, Goeringer will discuss her approaches to performance and instrument design, considering the ways that the materials used in both the production and performance of electronic music impact implied meaning and interpretations of the sonic artworks themselves. Starting with the idea of the political everyday, which incorporates the ideas that the world around us impacts the meaning we construct, Goeringer will talk about several of her instruments including HIDden, an instrument that is made from streetlights, her work with EMF and sound, as well as her most recent work that uses bone as both sounding object and as a housing for electronic instruments and installation components.
