On Sunday, April 14 at 7 p.m. at Hill Auditorium, the U-M Life Sciences Orchestra will conclude its 19th season of blending music and science, with a free performance featuring a special flute soloist.

The LSO will play works by Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Nielsen and Salonen, under the direction of Chelsea Gallo, a doctoral candidate in conducting at the U-M School of Music, Theatre & Dance.

Joining the LSO as special soloist will be David J. Brown, M.D., Associate Dean and Associate Vice President for Health Equity and Inclusion at Michigan Medicine. Dr. Brown helped found the LSO in 1999, and was co-winner of the orchestra's latest Concerto Competition. He'll perform Carl Nielsen's Concerto for Flute and Orchestra.

Gallo will conduct the concerto, as well as the Michigan premiere of Esa-Pekka Salonen's "Helix" and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4. Assistant conductor Regulo Stabilito will conduct Mozart's Magic Flute overture.

Admission is free, no tickets required. Donations will be accepted to support the LSO, which is part of the Gifts of Art program at Michigan Medicine. Details: http://lso.med.umich.edu
