The University Symphony Orchestra, conducted by its music director, Kenneth Kiesler, performs Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, the composer’s ultimate journey from tragedy to triumph. Mozart’s shortest symphony, in the style of an Italian overture, opens the program. Maximillian Dimoff, U-M faculty member and principal double bassist of the Cleveland Orchestra is the soloist in Bottesini’s virtuosic Bass Concerto No. 2.
