Summer Carillon Series: Jenna Moon
Jenna Moon, a DMA candidate in Sacred Music at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance, performs a recital on the 53-bell Charles Baird Carillon on the theme of healing from collective grief. Her program will feature "Healing Bells" by Dr. Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra, plus selections from Ruiter-Feenstra's forthcoming book, "Global Rings," co-created with U-M carillon students.
Concerts are free and family-friendly. We kindly ask that attendees support physical distancing practices by bringing picnic blankets and lawn chairs and responsibly spacing themselves throughout Ingalls Mall, and we advise wearing masks when conversing with people from other households. Public parking is available downtown.
Jenna Moon, one of U-M's two summer carillon series Assistant Directors, is a doctoral candidate in Sacred Music. She studies organ with Dr. James Kibbie and carillon with Dr. Tiffany Ng. An avid ambassador for the carillon, Moon performs weekly midday carillon recitals during the academic year and has arranged Korean traditional songs for the "Global Rings" project under the direction of Dr. Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra. Moon is a co-recipient of a 2020 Sonic Scenographies Award for an experimental collaboration with graduate students in Architecture and Urban Planning. Their research project envisions new rituals of carillon performance on the digital ground of Augmented Reality.
