We will explain how to think of p-adic representations of Galois groups of fields of (residue) characteristic p using Fontaine's phi-modules (resp. (phi, Gamma)-modules). Fontaine's phi-modules and (phi, Gamma)-modules are objects of semi-linear algebra over certain big rings. We will try to work out some examples in lieu of proofs of Fontaine's theorem.
