This year, Douglass Day celebrates the life and activism of Mary Church Terrell, a co-founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the National Association of Colored Women. Register to join us for any or all of these Zoom events: https://umlib.us/douglassdayreg

1:30–2:15 pm

Keynote address: “Tragedy and Triumph: the Personal Cost of Racial Injustice and Social Justice Activism in the Life of Mary Church Terrell," by Dr. Shelley Haley, Ph.D. ‘77

2:30–4:00 pm, drop in to participate in any of these!

* Virtual transcription session: transcribe the papers of Mary Church Terrell

* Digital arts and crafts session: make valentines for Black women activists

* Great Douglass Bake Off: compete with your baked goods in celebration Frederick Douglass — so bring your best bakes!

Although Douglass was born into bondage and never knew his birthdate, he chose February 14th as his day. We're celebrating Douglass Day on February 12th this year, taking time to create and preserve Black history together.
