Bend and Break

In this talk, we will sketch Mori's technique to produce rational curves on a Fano variety. This is called Mori's Bend and Break technique and has since become a foundational tool in birational geometry. A remarkable feature of the proof is that relies on reduction to characteristic p. In the talk, we will briefly overview Hom-schemes, reduction to characteristic p and finally the bend and break lemma. Any concept from beyond Math 631 will be defined/ stated clearly Speaker(s): Swaraj Pande (UM)
