Abelian Varieties

Abelian varieties are projective varieties which are also algebraic groups. They form an interesting class of geometric objects which can be used to study other varieties that arise in algebraic geometry and in number theory. In this talk, we will explore some basic properties and examples of abelian varieties, paying special attention to the Jacobian variety of a smooth projective curve. Speaker(s): Gary Hu (UM)
