A bewildering succession and accretion of unusual, complex, traumatic, global phenomena prompt the individual and collective need to process what has happened and is happening. In spite of their recent and concurrent intensification, these phenomena aren’t events with well-defined horizons.The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has had its ebbs and flows; the struggle for racial justice long preceded the murder of George Floyd; the climate catastrophe has been unfolding for the better part of a century. These and other turmoils are unfolding processes, as are our grief, trauma, and efforts to cope.
