The Scandinavian Program and the Center for World Performance Studies will host the innovative Swedish folk quintet Jaerv alongside the Minnesotan neo-classical crossover duo The OK Factor for a performance in the Keene Theater on Monday, October 3. Rooted in several different musical traditions with influences from both jazz and pop music, Jaerv offers a lively stage performance where vocal, five-voiced tunes blend in with energetic dances and free improvisations.

Jaerv is an internationally well known act and has toured the U.S., Japan, Spain, Scotland, Ireland, Finland and Norway among other countries. Jaerv currently has three full length studio albums and a number of singles and collaborations. Members include Markus Gustavsson – violin, voice; Joel Hagen – flute, whistles, soprano saxophone, EWI, voice; Anders Bergsten – key fiddle, base, organ, voice; Harald Nilsson - guitar, voice; Tobias Hedlund – percussion, organ, voice.

The OK Factor, whose original compositions feel both comfortingly familiar and uniquely fresh, have been described as "genre-bending" (Julie Amacher, MPR) and "pure magic" (Wausau Pilot & Review). The OK Factor has produced four studio albums of their original pieces and arrangements.

This annual event, funded through an endowment established by Olivia Maynard and Olof Karlström, provides an opportunity for the U-M community and general public to enhance their understanding and appreciation of Scandinavian Culture. Co-sponsored by SWEA Michigan, the Ann Arbor Community for Traditional Music and Dance, and the Detroit Swedish Foundation.
