This performance/conference aspires to raise awareness and strengthen decolonial, queer, and feminist frameworks from a diverse, open, and interdisciplinary perspective. The two Brazilian artists propose that modernity, insofar a systemic perpetuation of violence and domination, is fundamental to understand decolonial theories that are built upon the idea of “desocultamento” or unhiding of diverse epistemologies, grammars, forms of social, economic, political and family organization, and spirituality.

“o modo superior da filosofia” is part of the “ATeliê voadOR Research Visibilization” project sponsored by the Secretaria de Cultura (Culture Ministry) of the State of Bahia through the Edital de Mobilidade Cultural and CAPES. The purpose of this project is to promote intercultural dialogue, cooperation, co-production, exchange, and collaboration between artists from Bahia, Brazil, and artists in other countries, in addition to promoting the insertion of Bahia in the international circuit of art and culture.

Djalma Thürler is a theater director, dramaturge, and interdisciplinary researcher with ATeliê voadOR Teatro in Salvador, Bahia. He holds a PhD from Universidade Federal Fluminense (2006) and is a professor at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), where he researches queer language, decolonial aesthetics, and monstrous theatricalities with the NuCuS research group.

Duda Woyda, also affiliated with ATeliê voadOR Teatro, is an actor and researcher. He holds a master’s and PhD in culture and society from UFBA and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in 2023.

Sponsors: Department of Romance Language and Literature, Department of Women's and Gender Studies, Department of American Culture, and the Latino/a Studies Program.
