Innovation Insights: A Research Talk with Yiwen Lin
Charting Equity in Online Learning Teams: Opportunities and Challenges
Collaboration offers a powerful avenue for fostering deep and meaningful student learning. However, in online learning environments, challenges like unequal participation often emerge and can go unnoticed. In this talk, Dr. Yiwen Lin will explore how to analyze engagement at scale, identify settings where unequal participation is happening, and foster equitable interactions. She will also invite discussion on the challenges and opportunities of implementing and evaluating team-based learning in real-world online courses.

About Yiwen Lin
Dr. Yiwen Lin is a postdoctoral associate at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research focuses on equity in STEM education and collaborative teams. Her research draws on interdisciplinary perspectives from psychology, learning science, and computational methods to explore learning experiences and outcomes. Yiwen is deeply committed to understanding how individual identities shape engagement in online learning and educational trajectories. Her work has examined gender and cultural differences in learning, the development of collaborative and communication skills, and facilitating effective teamwork. Her work seeks to identify effective strategies for fostering inclusiveness in educational practices and broadening the participation of underrepresented students in STEM through organizational efforts.
