FAST Lecture | The Site of the Horti Sallustiani in Rome
Francesca Zandonai, Freie Universität Berlin
Join us at this month’s FAST Lecture to hear from Francesca Zandonai, a junior visiting scholar from Freie Universität Berlin.
The objective of Francesca’s doctoral research project is to investigate the topographical and architectural evolution of the Horti Sallustiani site in Rome and to develop a new understanding of how this multifunctional garden complex evolved—a key aspect that has received little attention in scholarship to date. By employing digital methods, her project will provide a digital, diachronic topography of all archaeological finds and features discovered within the area of the Horti Sallustiani. This will allow for a critical re-evaluation of the existence and function of the garden complex. As a starting point for this topographical inquiry, Francesca will examine both historical excavations and more recent, unpublished archaeological investigations.
FAST (Field Archaeology Series on Thursday) Lectures are free and open to the public. The talk will take place in Room 125 of the Kelsey Museum’s Newberry Hall. Light refreshments will be provided at 5:30 PM, with the lecture starting at 6:00 PM.
